Guayabo is an archaeologically important location which is located in the country of Costa Rica. It is an ancient city which dates from pre-Columbian times. This location can be found in the thick rainforest regions of the country and its was said to have been inhabited as far back as 1500 years BC up until the year 1400 AD.

This ancient city was once the home of more than 10 -25,000 people but very little evidence of this remains there today. Archaeological work has unearthed and revealed most of the city with a large number of relics of the ancient civilization being unearthed in the process.

This opinion is based on the number of items of archaeological and historical significance which have been unearthed here. These items include road ways and parts of aqueducts, road maps and statues of various gods represented by alligator and jaguar figurines.

The location of the site is only about 50 acres in size but yet only 15% or so of the entire site has been unearthed. Unlike the other cities in the region Guayabo is no pyramid city but rather one built on lowlands from wood, stone and other locally available materials.Different forms of flora and fauna are located here and you can also catch a glimpse of some extremely rare species of flowers.

Traveling to Guayaba and getting there and away.

Guayabo is to the east of San Jose the capital of Costa Rica, precisely in the region of Turriabla.
The site is accessible mostly by rural roads but since it is a fairly popular location, almost any interested tourist can get there easily.
